Corn in a cup - Esquite

Sorry, terrible pic but it’s all I got. This was on a bench after I already started eating it. Wish I could have waited and took a pic of it as it was presented to me.

Bought right outside my hotel here near “el centro” in Hidalgo del Parral. At first I had no idea what this was but it looked tempting.

I wasn’t sure what they call this street food here in Parral (Hidalgo del Parral) but after researching it today I found that it is similar to the well-known Mexican street food “Elote en Vaso” which is corn on the cob served similar to the “Esquite”. It was pretty good and hit the spot at the time.

I saw a few people frequenting this street vendor’s location and watched as someone had this cup of corn prepared for them. I hadn’t eaten yet that night so it was time to try some street food.

Esquites - Mexican street corn in a cup.

Cuanta cuesta?, I asked the vendor. 23 Pesos. I told him I would have the same thing as the guy that had just been served. The vendor took a styrofoam cup and put (possibly) chicken broth inside. He quickly scooped some loose, hot corn out of his cooker (not sure what they call this thing, sorry) and tossed it into the cup. He put something along the inside of the cup, maybe Mexican sweet cream and then squirted something that looked like mayonesa on top, sprinkled some red chili powder on top, sprinkled some grated cheese and then took a slice of lime and squeezed it onto the top. Finished it with a spoon into the cup.

Tasted pretty good. Not sure but it tasted like spicy, buttery, slightly tangy parmesan cheesy corn. I would get it again.
